How Finasteride works
Finasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a key driver of androgenetic alopecia, causing susceptible hair follicles to gradually shrink over time.
By reducing DHT levels, finasteride has been shown to slow or stop the progression of hair loss and, in many cases, supports some degree of regrowth over time. It has decades of clinical evidence behind it and remains one of the most well-studied compounds available for hair loss.
Finasteride is a prescription medication used to treat certain forms of hair loss, including androgenetic alopecia. Some patients experience hair retention, reduced shedding, or regrowth, while others may experience more limited results. Visible changes often require several months of consistent use.
Individual results vary and depend on factors such as genetics, duration of hair loss, treatment adherence, and overall health.
